Welcome to my website
I did intend to create this site by requesting information on the history of the once well known High Street chain Mac Fisheries Ltd. A chain of shops which had an establishment in most major U.K. towns during the 20th centuary. Considering this group had more than 400 shops in its heyday, I was shocked to find so little about this company on the internet.
I thought i'd request any information, along with old photographs and to add it to this site for all to see. My own research bought up very few photos, but what I did find made me see what a pride shop owners and workers took in their shopfront window displays during the 1900s.
A classic photo and almost a masterpiece of pride is of the Mac Fisheries shop front from Cheltenham dated 1930s displaying their poultery.
Notice how they even color coded their stock for effect (top Row). You could not help but notice this shop display if it was set for us to see today, but I guess in the 2009s it would also attract the health officers along with other officals to pay them a visit.
Well, during my search for Macs info I came across many photos from other High Street shops of the 1900s, some still in business today, but most have disappeared, all seemed to be at war with each other with who had the best display. Some layouts must have taken hours to set up.
It was at this stage that I thought just requesting for Mac Fisheries photos and memories seemed daft when there must be 1000s of photographs of other high street establishments kicking around in boxes of many an attic.
This is where you come in to this site.
Forward me any High Street shop photos or anything connected to that shop, be it just a letter of your memories or maybe an old invoice or receipt and I will add it to this website, with your credits. I am especialy looking for transport photographs, hopefully with the store logos and signwriting, like this amazing shot below, of six Mac Fisheries Vans, with Reigate Swimming Baths in the background, I guess taken around 1950. Hopefully we can go right back to horse an cart days.

Any company formation history will be fantastic, dates of when it formed and if, like most, when it disappeared and if possible dates, or at least rough dates to the era of the photos.
I will sub-section each store and list in order.
I do not intend to use any information for any commercial gain and if their are any objections to any material posted, i will simply remove it to avoid any wars.
All I want to do is hopefully get a really good referance web-site together, with many ageing photos, for many people to view and simply reflect on those
HIGH STREET MEMORIES.
